How We Help
Every year, we at Furry Down Under organize a charity auction. The proceeds from this event are donated to Fresh Start Rescue, supporting their mission to rescue animals from shelters and provide them with foster homes, eventually guiding them towards their new forever homes.

About Fresh Start Rescue
Fresh Start Rescue is a devoted group of animal enthusiasts aiming to significantly reduce the number of companion animals euthanized in pounds and shelters across the state each year. Our base is in Brisbane, Queensland, but our network of foster families and volunteers extends across the state’s southeast, including the northern and southern suburbs of Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Ipswich, and the Lockyer Valley.
We do not operate a shelter facility. Instead, all our rescue pets live in nurturing foster homes while they wait to find their forever families. Upon accepting a dog or cat into our foster care, we commit to finding them the perfect home, regardless of how long it takes. We never give up!
Our organization is powered entirely by volunteers. We do not receive any government funding or major corporate sponsorship. Our largest expenditure is veterinary fees, which can reach thousands of dollars each month. We manage to cover these costs through funds raised from various fundraising events, donations, and adoption fees for our animals. After paying for veterinary expenses, there is often very little profit, if any, from the adoption of each pet. Many pets with pre-existing medical conditions are adopted out at a significant loss.
Our primary mission is to rescue dogs and cats from overflowing local and regional pounds and shelters. Many of these animals are perfectly healthy and capable of being happy family pets, yet they only have a few days, sometimes only hours, to live. These animals either become lost and remain unclaimed or are surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them.
Each year, 250,000 companion animals are euthanized in Australia. We humbly request your help, whether through a large or small donation, to help us continue saving lives across Queensland.
